Diving into an Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have found numerous entertaining indie games. However, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a character that is truly a dung striving to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: press a jump control. In numerous challenges, battle tough enemies and visit a shop to buy outfits for your fecal avatar.

Plan your movements carefully, since one error requires starting over. Leap on bubbles to hurl yourself upward, cross fragile surfaces, and activate buttons to reveal new areas. Gather UN-KOINS to purchase tougher stages where the action intensifies.

Graphically, the demo shows off vibrant environments and an amazing soundtrack. The retro graphics with shifting basic polygons evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though hard to think of similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, gaming frequently incorporated scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. Naturally, such content shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, including taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available now on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on PC in the fall.
